Singing bowls can be a powerful tool to help with relaxation and alleviating symptoms of stress.

The strong vibration generated by the singing bowls is a very powerful one. One I wanted to caputure on video for some time now (it turned out to be harder than I thought, due to lighting haha).

I’ve mixed the sound of my singing bowl (which was really strong since the camera was so close to the bowl), with this beautiful “feng sui” song from Michel Découvreur du Zen.

If you feel like joining one of my (in person or online) Sound Baths, make sure to check my workshop calendar (link in bio).

Enjoy your Sunday beautiful people ♥️.

Applicable to both my university students as well as my yogastudents 🙈

I do know (how to use) the tools to relax & de-stress, that doesn’t mean I never experience stress or never feel anxious or stressed out! 👀

We’re all human ♥️

How are you feeling today?

I NEED YOUR HELP

I'm currently writing down some ideas for new yoga videos that I will post to the Yoga on Demand catalogue as part of my online studio MyAuroraYoga. Next week I will be recording new classes to put up!

My big question is: what do you prefer in terms of classes?

👉 soft gentle flows or strong fierce flows?

👉 15 minutes, 30 minutes or longer classes?

👉 specific themes or a specific focus for the yoga practices?

Let me know 😘 other (yoga-related) ideas are always welcome as well!

ASANA TECHNIQUE is BACK! @uscleiden

Tonight I will teach the Hatha Yoga Asana Technique again. We will dive into Vrksasana, tree pose. 🌲

We are going to explore balance, hip-mobility & hip-stability (⚡spoiler alert: my hips are NOT in "optimal" alignment in this picture). We will explore this alignment & challenge ourselves to figure out what alignment works for us at this point in time (⚡spoiler alert number 2: alignment is not everything, as long as we keep the pose safe for our own body; which means the pose can differ from person to person).

Ready to play? Sign up through @uscleiden & I will see you tonight at 19:10u! 😘

𓇬Why is Savasana Important?𓇬

A question that I get asked every once in a while. Maybe you are one of the people who feels really uncomfortable when lying still in Savasana (the final relaxation) at the end of a yoga class.

Maybe you would love to just skip Savasana, and go on with the rest of the day. However, for some reason I always keep telling you that Savasana is the most important pose of your whole entire yoga practice. 😬🧐

"If you would just do one pose for the whole entire class, let it be Shavasana" I catch myself saying every now and then (when I get this question).

So today I will tell you why Savasana is important, and why you should never skip it!

---

1. Savasana helps you to fully release, by bringing about a deep state of rest at the end of your practice. ~ the reason that a lot of people don't feel "relaxed" in this pose, can be because they go on and on and on in everyday life, without taking a moment of "rest" and "stillness". If you notice your thoughts are even louder during Savasana, Savasana could be what you actually really need right now!

2. Savasana gives you time to "reset"; to release remaining tension in the body & to let your breath go back to its natural rhythm. Our body can come back to its neutral position after doing stretches, folds and twists.

Which brings me to:

3. Savasana helps you to integrate all the amazing stuff you did during your practice. Since we are mainly activating the sympathetic nervous system during our practice (which means that our heart rate increases, our temperature rises and our breathing tempo increases), Savasana allows us to tap into the parasympathetic nervous system; our heart rate goes down, our muscles and organs get more oxygen and we can breath deeper and slower.

Savasana gives us a moment for recovery after action. A balance between action and relaxation, Yang & Yin. We need both!

So whatever you do, never, ever skip Savasana ;)

Consider this your SIGN that it is time to finally try out that yogaclass you’ve always wanted to try but never did!

Not sure where to start? Maybe this helps:

✨Hatha Yoga: active practice, focusses on strength & flexibility - intensity depends on the teacher

✨Vinyasa yoga: an active practice where we flow on the rhythm of the breath

✨ Yin Yoga: relaxing class, focusses on letting go, increasing mobility & stimulating healthy joints & fascia.

✨ Restorative yoga: great way to heal, relax & let go of (old / physical) trauma.

✨ Poweryoga: focusses on strength - did somebody say fire? 🔥

✨ Private Yoga: a yogaclass that is made for YOU, based on your goals, your body & your practice.

➡️This list is quite short & general, so if you’re curious what kind of class will suit you, don’t hesitate to ask!

I'M PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE NEW MYAURORAYOGA MEMBERSHIP HAS ARRIVED!

✨How it started...

During March last year, we all got surprised by the first lockdown in the Netherlands. From teaching a lot of classes a week, I saw my business crumble before my eyes. I lost over 2/3rd of my business' revenue.😰

And there you were♥️: after I started posting small practices on Instagram (live & on IGTV), you started donating money in return. I was amazed, surprised & incredibly grateful for the support I received from so many of you! (Either through donations, sharing my videos or sending me supportive messages).

As you might know, I used the money from your donations to rebuild my website, turning it into an online yogastudio. Introducing memberships, weekly live classes & a yoga on demand catalogue.

✨How it was going...

The Yoga on Demand Catalogue kept growing, with 3-4 new videos that were added each week. Teaching online was intense, but it kept me busy during the lockdowns.

After a while (I think it was during the third lockdown), I found a balance between teaching online live classes, filming extra classes, editing and working on my website.

The internet allowed me to welcome back yogis who practiced with me (sometimes years ago) in person, but who had moved abroad. 🙏

✨What it turned into...

A new part of my business. A way to keep a balance between putting my energy into the physical in person yogaclasses, workshops, courses and my work on my PhD and teaching job at @UniversiteitLeiden .

I don't teach live online classes anymore (but you know, never say never), but I do record new practices to add to the yoga on demand catalogue on a regular basis (including practices with different Guest Teachers!)).

The new membership has been adjusted to the new situation, which means:

➡️ it's cheaper! - only 10 euros a month (and you can cancel anytime!)

➡️ You get access to over 200 yoga & pranayama videos

➡️You can try it out FOR FREE!

➡️& as a member, you get a discount on my (online) courses, masterclasses, sound baths & more!

I hope I can welcome you (back) as a member soon! 🥰

NO MORNING-CUDDLES? 🥺

One thing is sure: Duke likes to cuddle in the morning, a lot! First he gets his breakfast, after which he returns to the bedroom to cuddle. ♥️

However, my yoga teaching schedule has changed quite a bit since last year. One of the things I really like & do now is teaching more morning classes 😊.

Teaching less in the evening means that I can finally find some rhythm in when I go to bed haha! And yes, also more time to make up for the lack in morning cuddles with Duke.🐈

I’m not a really a morning person, although I’m most productive in the mornings (yup, it’s weird).

How about you? Are you a morning- or an evening-person? ☀️🌕

And do you like to follow your yogaclasses in the morning or evening? 🧐✨
