Vegan BBQ Platter!❤️🌱🤤⁣

Truffle mac&cheese, red cabbage slaw, garlic/chili marinated tofu, corn on the cob, potato salad and veggie sausage. SO GOOD! And so easy! Took 15 minutes on the BBQ and the rest I whipped together in a jiff earlier in today. ⁣
⁣
I don’t talk a lot about veganism here because I get so fired up when it comes to the (non)ethical treatment of animals and it’s hard for me to not come across as shaming. And: human rights are more important than animal rights! In every way. I believe one does not negate the other - you can fight for social justice and also contribute to less harm in the world by choosing plants over flesh. ⁣

Here are some good reasons to go vegan!⁣
⁣
🌱plants are GOOD for you! a vegan diet is scientifically proven to lower the risk of cancer, heart disease, stroke and diabetes⁣
🌱 it’s the best diet for our planet! plant-based foods take less water, land and energy to produce and has a significantly better impact on the environment⁣
🌱 no harm/abuse/torture/slaughter of innocent animals⁣
🌱 you will live a life in alignment with your core values (if you believe in non-harm and compassion)⁣
⁣
Here are some good reasons to not go vegan: ⁣

🌿  it’s just not an accessible lifestyle for you⁣
🌿 you are struggling to find security and a sense of safety in life overall ⁣
🌿 you are moving through trauma/major struggle and the mere thought of changing your diet adds stress to your life ⁣
🌿 systemic injustice prevents you from considering this kind of lifestyle change ⁣

Plant-based, whole, organic foods should be available for ALL. They are not - that is a simple fact. Until the more privileged part of our population begins to make better choices for our planet and our society, under-resourced communities will suffer. If you have the ability to choose to eat less animal products, your daily choices will impact the overall demand and with time we will be able to ensure plant-based foods are accessible to all. Imagine if we didn’t use all these resources to grow crops to feed animals for slaughter but instead grew foods for the PEOPLE? It would be a different world🌎 ⁣

Reclining Hand-To-Big-Toe pose or reclined big toe pose is a truly wonderful pose for creating space in the back of the legs. By lying down and bending the opposite knee you create a stable place for the lower back to isolate the hamstrings and create space where space is needed. A strap here is super helpful, too! ⁣⁣

If your hamstrings are super tight, Down Dog is not the place to be working on that (I’ll explain in tomorrow’s pose of the day why that is!). Instead, bend your knees in down dog and come to this pose every day to work on your hamstring flexibility. Tight hamstrings are often the culprit of lower back pain so keep those hammies happy💛 #yogaeverydamnday

Is your spiritual practice as deep as the discord you are currently witnessing all around you? 

I’ve been feeling so overwhelmed lately. I feel this need to sit in silence, sit in stillness, sit with tea, sit with myself… and I crave it a way that feels almost primal. Where I used to long for movement or dance or yoga (and I still do) I now long for a big, wide, empty space to just be in. 

It’s becoming increasingly overwhelming for me to hold the pain of this world. 

It’s escalating. The madness. And with that, we have to escalate our self-care. We have to level up the practices that bring us back home to ourselves. 

We aren’t doing this shit for kicks anymore, y’all. It’s life or… Not-life. Life or numbing out. Life or separation. Life or getting so far off track it’s going to be hard to ever find our way back. 

I choose life. My life. This life. So I’m stepping it up. More silence, more stillness, more practices that bring me peace. More sitting with discomfort, with pain, with joy, with love. More presence. More sitting with tea and with myself. 

Is your spiritual practice as deep as the discord you are currently witnessing all around you?
